Avassa is cool!
Despite our Swedish heritage, we have always thought that we are a pretty cool company. And certainly that the software our incredible engineering team is producing is very cool. But it’s always great to hear that others think of us as cool too.
That is why we were very excited to learn that the original cool-makers-in-tech themselves — Gartner® — named us a 2022 Cool Vendor in Edge Computing.
What I find particularly great about this year’s report (on top of the fact that we’re in it 😎) is that it introduces a stack model called Edge Management and Orchestration (EMO). “EMO stacks provide discrete layers of control over server and device management, network and security management, the infrastructure software stack and, in some cases, the applications themselves.”
I believe this type of layered approach and the abstractions it introduces provide much-needed clarity around the problem space in general, and also helps users map vendor solutions into more well-known and agreed-upon challenge spaces.
Our vision is to make applications delightfully easy for operations teams to manage at the edge. We enable them to deploy, monitor, and observe applications using the same cloud-operations approach they have built for centralized clouds, but in distributed environments.
According to Gartner, “IT Leaders planning edge computing projects should create and follow an enterprise edge strategy by focusing first on business benefit and holistic systems, not just point technical solutions or products.”
We could not agree more and believe the business case for our solution is clear. It is complex to manage container applications across hundreds or even thousands of locations, even though that is very much the reality for retailers, fast food chains, hospitals, manufacturing companies, or any other organization with applications running in many locations. Taking the particulars of the edge into account (scarce resources, many locations, offline survivability, locations matter, etc) the industry needs a deeply automated and opinionated approach that makes it simple to extend the capabilities of application teams to the edge.
If you are curious about what a really (and verifiably so) cool solution for edge application management looks like I would suggest you take our system for a spin with a free trial.
